This book describes techniques for improving mental abilities. The text also describes a "depressant diet," which is not a smart diet but can im- prove self-control and sleep. Readers don't need to use the strict diets on a per- manent basis and the book recommends the conventional food pyramid most of the time. The text also discusses several useful social skills and studying/writing techniques as well as the role of luck in personal achievement.      Most authors in this field will tell you that you should read more books, solve mental puzzles, buy their nutritional supplements, sleep well, and exercise in or- der to get smarter. In contrast, this book is proposing moderately cold hydrother- apy and a smart diet (which involves avoiding all dietary supplements). To give another example, most books on anger management say that you should try to change your thinking in order to overcome anger, while this book suggests hot hydrotherapy and the exclusion of certain foods from your diet. The main focus of discussion in this text is on changing the biological workings of the brain, not on pop psychology. In particular, the book describes various combinations of diets and hydrotherapy that have the following effects: sedative/sleep-promoting, stimulant/wakefulness-promoting, attention-enhancing, antianxiety, antidepres- sant, mood-stabilizing (mood-lowering), and euphoriant. In addition, the book presents existing scientific evidence of pain-reducing, fever-reducing, anti- fatigue, immunostimulatory, antinausea, antihypertensive, and anti-inflammatory effects of hydrotherapy. The text also discusses the possible side effects of the diets and hydrotherapy.      Despite its technical content, the book is written in an accessible language and has an informative summary for each chapter and a list of key points at the end of each section. The book supports most of the claims in the bulleted list above with a theory and the author's personal experience (a healthy subject). Previously published scientific studies directly support about a half of these claims, including the claim about intelligence tests. The author's academic transcripts and test scores have been documented and can be verified independently.

Each playset is home to an adorable boy or girl lion, elephant, monkey, turtle, or polar bear. The animal asks the player to draw objects they want. If the player chooses to draw the object, drawing paper comes up and the player uses the mouse to draw the object the animal asked for. Players use their mouse to draw the object the animal asks for. There are many objects each animal will ask for. The game recognizes what the player is drawing and transforms the drawing into the focus of whimsical and wacky interactions with the animal. When the player draws the sun in the Polar Bear playset, all the penguins put on sunglasses. In the Elephant playset, the Elephant is eager to show off its ability to balance on a ball--but what happens if the shape of the ball is a triangle? Or a star? Or a square? The monkey wants its playmate to draw it a hammock to sleep in. Little does it know the player can pull the hammock they drew back and fling the monkey high into the air only to watch it count ten clouds as it floats down. For example, in the elephant playset, a star can be earned by watering flowers. The first step is to draw a rain cloud, then click on the cloud to make it rain and fill the bucket. As they water the flowers, the water level in the bucket goes down. If it empties before the task of watering the flowers is complete, then children must figure out that they'll need to make it rain again, in order to fill up the bucket and complete the task Engages Children in Reading For early readers, ItzaZoo offers a new approach to learning to read. Instructional bubbles pop up throughout the game, giving sentences that ask for tasks to complete or give hints. Players who can't read a word can mouse over any word, and it will turn red and a child's voice will read the word aloud. Visitor Challenges are the ultimate reading challenge. As players earn trophies by winning stars, more visitors are attracted to the exhibit. Once a silver trophy is earned, Visitor Challenges are unlocked. The furnishings are mostly grouped by theme, with the medieval dungeon option the most authoritative of the bunch. (Little Cassandra Goth has been longing to read by torch light all along.) Our personal favorite is the futuristic theme, with an optional, but expensive, maid/gardener robot to take care of the fabulous modern furnishings. Clearly the Sims team has been doing its research over at Herman Miller, and you'll have a bright red, flowing-foam sofa to show for it. But it wouldn't be The Sims if only good taste prevailed. Bring on the mai tais with a tiki-heavy islander theme. There's also a startling collection of carpeting and objects best grouped under the design ideal we call "demented clown." The attention-getting rarities include: a lame fortune-telling ball (our advice mostly centered around hiring a maid), a voodoo doll for hexing roommates, and a genie who delivers as much bad as good (dead plants, anyone?). And, yes, there's a vibrating bed to give your Sims the spice they've been missing. While the expansion didn't blow us away, it did provide more of the humor and novelty true Sims die-hards will appreciate.
