Five tips for easy application. Panic College
Five tips for easy application. Panic College
Alexandra Robbins, author of over-achieving.
Recently I returned to my old high school students through the college application process for a book about the pressure on the students follow today. (And parents) successfully be. What I found that mirrored what I see in schools across the country from Vermont to New Mexico: Fear of the applied more widely. After talking with several hundred Students, parents get up. Staff and consulting, I have some tips to families through the often stressful time will help to put together. (For more tips and stories my students do. Found in over-compliance).
1 forego "ranking".
Many publications claim to universities in a specific Rank order each year. Items usually affects student. Decisions about where to use these points will be deceived. Ratings were changed as it began; If the algorithm for the first U.S. News ranking of the leading manufacturers of schools that do not. Harvard, Princeton, Yale or, magazines, disposable formula (which won the variety). And statisticians have created. Published many factors that belong to the school today do not need. Barring any real experience in undergraduate - Many college and went to their data.
Not to mention two.
Students often. And the parents are satisfied with the results of the study score. Your SAT and college application List. .. Until they talk to other students. And the parents and found himself in the comparison game. Many students. I was told they decided not to apply to certain schools because they It not only sounds impressive when someone asked Love. That with or goes to college. Not to mention your stats, or the children. Others - and not asked about other people. Other "- to use heavy load of your shoulders.
Spread in three activities.
Several activities for students in the College Division of the call to return to their loss of sleep and leisure time in the process. But officials said the applicant told me that they need students to only one or two activities to celebrate the real interest.
4 They do not reflect the ability of understanding.
A lot of excitement about college shooting from the conviction that schools are the best brand and on the springboard to success. This is the legend of the study showed that income. Do not add a degree of balance and in the school year. 2005 S & P 500 CEOs have graduated from Harvard with a number, a graduate of the University of Wisconsin games.
5 entries, are not personal.
Too many families look at your application as if a decision will be accepted or rejected. The kind of comments are those of some Possession is in fact a number of recruiting game, that most students can not win. The competition will be difficult to distinguish between "Congratulations" and differentiate, "but ..." can be as simple as the fact that the school needs a band playing French horn. Admission officials said all season that them in a large number of pupils with special Qualified turn to participate in their school.
The bottom line is that over 2500 four-year colleges in the United States in addition to a large school in a foreign country. Most of these schools would be valuable back to the students. The idea that the quality of education in schools is a brand name. dramatically from other schools. So this is not valid relax. It is not OK, caught in the excitement. With a focus on personal interests and spend lots of time to do something selfish pleasure "to call back on to ensure that everything works well.

How to Become Smarter List Price: |
DescriptionThis book describes techniques for improving mental abilities. Some of the things it can help you to achieve include the following: Depending on circumstances, use different lifestyles that improve one or another mental function.Experience euphoria without drugs and come up with new ideas, when needed.Slow down and prevent yourself from making rash, impulsive decisions, when necessary.Sharpen your wit, become more talkative, and entertain people. When necessary, lower your mood and increase emotional tension, which can reduce procrastination.Increase your score on intelligence or general aptitude tests.Concentrate on reading and writing for many hours daily.Increase your grade point average if you are a student or improve your job productivity if you are a knowledge worker.Get along with people and live without arguments and conflicts. The proposed methods are brief cooling or heating of the body (water thera- py) and three different "smart diets," each suitable for a different type of task. The text also describes a "depressant diet," which is not a smart diet but can im- prove self-control and sleep. Readers don't need to use the strict diets on a per- manent basis and the book recommends the conventional food pyramid most of the time. The text also discusses several useful social skills and studying/writing techniques as well as the role of luck in personal achievement. Most authors in this field will tell you that you should read more books, solve mental puzzles, buy their nutritional supplements, sleep well, and exercise in or- der to get smarter. In contrast, this book is proposing moderately cold hydrother- apy and a smart diet (which involves avoiding all dietary supplements). To give another example, most books on anger management say that you should try to change your thinking in order to overcome anger, while this book suggests hot hydrotherapy and the exclusion of certain foods from your diet. The main focus of discussion in this text is on changing the biological workings of the brain, not on pop psychology. In particular, the book describes various combinations of diets and hydrotherapy that have the following effects: sedative/sleep-promoting, stimulant/wakefulness-promoting, attention-enhancing, antianxiety, antidepres- sant, mood-stabilizing (mood-lowering), and euphoriant. In addition, the book presents existing scientific evidence of pain-reducing, fever-reducing, anti- fatigue, immunostimulatory, antinausea, antihypertensive, and anti-inflammatory effects of hydrotherapy. The text also discusses the possible side effects of the diets and hydrotherapy. Despite its technical content, the book is written in an accessible language and has an informative summary for each chapter and a list of key points at the end of each section. The book supports most of the claims in the bulleted list above with a theory and the author's personal experience (a healthy subject). Previously published scientific studies directly support about a half of these claims, including the claim about intelligence tests. The author's academic transcripts and test scores have been documented and can be verified independently. |
